Prince Estifanos Matewos warmly welcomes the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of the landmark resolution declaring the transatlantic slave trade and slavery as the gravest crimes against humanity. The resolution, championed through the leadership of the Republic of Ghana, represents a historic moral and global milestone in the recognition of centuries of systematic exploitation of African peoples.
Prince Estifanos Matewos commends the visionary leadership of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of Ghana, for his pivotal role in advancing this resolution. This achievement reflects the enduring Pan-African principle that the liberation and dignity of one African nation are inseparable from the total liberation of the continent. By securing this recognition, Ghana has once again proven itself as the Black Star of Africa, leading the charge for justice, historical accountability, and continental dignity on the global stage. “This historic resolution is a long-overdue acknowledgment of the 400-year crime of slavery.
It opens a door that can never be closed and provides the moral and legal framework upon which we must now build a future of accountability, justice, and reparations,” Prince Estifanos Matewos stated. Prince Estifanos Matewos further emphasized that this milestone belongs to all Africans, on the continent and across the Diaspora. The resolution calls for collective action, including reparations and repatriation of financial wealth and cultural artifacts, structured dialogue with former colonial powers, and long-term reforms to correct enduring structural inequalities.
He stressed that recognition must now be followed by tangible measures to restore justice, economic sovereignty, and dignity to African peoples. The adoption of this resolution also underscores the urgent need to address contemporary global economic inequalities linked to historical exploitation. Prince Estifanos Matewos advocates for the establishment of independent African financial institutions, a Continental Central Bank, a unified African currency, and sovereign markets to secure Africa’s economic self-determination.
The path forged by Ghana and its leadership exemplifies the resilience and unity of the African spirit. Prince Estifanos Matewos pledges the full support of the United Africa Royal Assembly in mobilizing, documenting, and advocating for a continent that is free, compensated, and sovereign. May the Black Star continue to shine brightly, and may the spirit of Pan-Africanism guide Africa and its global Diaspora toward justice and lasting unity.
